SAP Testing? 1700 Reasons You Should Choose Micro Focus SaaS

SAP Testing - 1700 Reasons to Choose Micro Focus SaaS

When it comes to SAP Testing, Micro Focus have a longer history than any toolset.

Due to new commercial agreement though, SAP can’t sell the Micro Focus Tools via SaaS. This begs lots of questions:

  • Is Micro Focus still the best choice for SAP Testing?
  • What does this mean for existing SAP/Micro Focus customers?
  • Should you replace UFT for SAP Test Automation?
  • What about your LoadRunner licenses?
  • Is ALM/QC still best SAP test management tool?
  • Where can I buy Micro Focus SaaS tools for SAP Testing?

The simple answer is this, don’t worry!

Micro Focus SaaS – Still THE choice for SAP testing

In this article we’re going to look at why SaaS makes Micro Focus the choice for SAP testing…

Vast SAP Testing Experience – Micro Focus Have 1700 SAP Customers

SAP sells Micro Focus at a huge mark-up, but that doesn’t stop customers buying. The fact that 1700 organisations have bought via SAP speaks volumes for the Micro Focus suite. It’s not a surprise though, Micro Focus is the most complete and robust tool suite. When you’re running a £billion+ company, you want to know your software is in good hands.

Since January 2021, SAP no longer sells the Micro Focus tools via SaaS. They have switched to Tricentis as their SaaS commercial test tool partner. Tricentis offer a pretty decent tool, but it’s not on the same level as the Micro Focus suite. I don’t walk the corridors of power in Waldorf, but I’d bet SAP switching from Micro Focus was based on commercials, not on quality. It might work well for SAP revenue, but does it really work for you?

Proven Where it Matters – The Leading SAP Projects use Micro Focus

Most of the leading global SAP implementations use Micro Focus to plan, execute and manage their test efforts. And to great effect. Not only have their projects delivered business benefits, but there’s a whole generation of SAP consultants and Testers with vast Micro Focus experience. It’s a tried, tested and trusted approach.

Ask yourself this… How many SAP consultants and testers have experience with Tricentis? Not many.

New and Existing Customers – SaaS Tools are a Perfect Fit

Over the last few years, SAP have switched focus from solutions to technology. For a while the even called themselves ‘SAP, the cloud company powered by HANA’. To be fair they quickly, and rightly dropped this in favour of more concise taglines. Nevertheless, it shows they are committed to technological advancement.

As SAP have developed their technologies further, their release frequency has increased – For new and existing customers alike, SAP use an ‘evergreen‘ software delivery model. Regular updates are pushed to their customer base via the cloud. Basically, you get the update whether you like it or not…. but how do you test it? Well, you need flexibility.

New and existing customers need flexible SAP testing tools – Some months you’ll have little to test, with only minor changes. Other months SAP will push bigger changes, you’ll have to run full system and regression cycles. Remember you’re not just testing the SAP updates, you’ve also got your development and integration to test.

Micro Focus SaaS test tools give you this flexibility  Rather than committing to all the licenses you’ll ever need, you only need to buy a base pack of license for a minimum of 12 months. This covers your bread-and-butter testing, defect reporting and dashboards throughout your project.

You can ramp up and ramp down your SAP testing  When the time comes, Micro Focus SaaS lets you buy extra licenses by the month. SAP project testing comes in waves, during peak activity you will use more licenses – Micro Focus SaaS is the only real solution for this. After all, who wants to buy perpetual licenses that rarely get any use?

Micro Focus Provides Familiar and Trusted SAP Testing Tools

The Micro Focus test tools are the best choice for SAP:

The Micro Focus tools are best-of-breed – feature rich, robust and proven. Not only this, but they’re familiar to almost every SAP tester, and have been used on most of the major global SAP implementations. This shouldn’t be underestimated, you don’t want to have to train testers and consultants in yet another new tool

SAP are constantly developing, and so are Micro Focus. You might think of the traditional site or individual license models, but Micro Focus also provide their tools via SaaS. It really is the best of both worlds, the certainty of the Micro Focus suite coupled with the flexibility of SaaS.  SaaS Can be up and running in days and Micro Focus manage the environment and upgrades for you.
