LoadRunner Cloud 24.4 – 3 Release Highlights

LoadRunner Cloud 244

OpenText has released LoadRunner Cloud 24.4, The latest version of their class-leading SaaS performance test tool.

We’ve been through the release notes and selected 3 things you need to know about recent LoadRunner releases.

  1. Easier web testing with TruClient 2.0
  2. New Protocol for Finance
  3. Add Datadog metrics to your tests

If you’re unfamiliar with LoadRunner Cloud, it is the leading cloud-based SaaS performance testing solution that simplifies, accelerates, and enhances your performance testing processes.

Built for the digital world, it excels at web and browser-based testing, applications, and complex solution landscapes like SAP, Oracle, and Citrix.

LoadRunner Cloud 24.4 – 3 Release Highlights

LoadRunner Cloud 24.4 includes several new features, and you can find full release notes here.

However, to make your life easier, we’ve been through the docs and picked the 3 most important release highlights that you need to know about:

1. Easier web testing with TruClient 2.0

TruClient provides a simplified way of recording and developing scripts for web performance tests. Most performance tools work on a protocol level and are more concerned with things that happen on the backend servers, like server response times.

TruClient works on a GUI level, more like a traditional automation test. It records the actions you perform in a browser and creates a script in real time, presented in a graphical, user-friendly interface.

TruClient 2.0 is a re-write and includes a number of upgrades over the original TruClient Web Protocol including:

  • Use your locally installed Chrome and Edge browsers to record and replay scripts.
  • Test runs are now supported on Linux Ubuntu load generators, in addition to Windows.
  • Updated, dedicated set of asynchronous API (JavaScript) functions.
  • The development window user interface has more streamlined editing functionality.
  • Migration utility to convert your current TruClient scripts to TruClient 2.0.

Note that TruClient 2.0 is provided as a tech preview in LoadRunner 24.4. so you can get early access to it and provide feedback to OpenText.

2. New Finance Protocol

The LoadRunner family is renowned for its extensive application coverage, supporting performance testing across more applications than any other tool.

This coverage has been further extended with a new Finance ISO protocol, which helps financial organisations test their ISO8583 solutions.

The Finance ISO protocol enables you to write Vuser scripts to monitor messages that follow the standard specifications defined by ISO-8583. This is achieved by interacting with the server sending and receiving the messages. When you run tests with your Finance ISO scripts, they collect specific metrics for the message exchange between server and client.

The protocol uses the jPOS 2.1.9 library for specific message interaction.

Learn about the Finance ISO protocol.

3. Add a Datadog Monitor to your tests

Reporting and analysis are areas where the whole LoadRunner family excels. LoadRunner Cloud is no different; on one hand, you can instantly create executive-level reports and dashboards; on the other, you can dive into the smallest details for any test run in vast and complex scenarios.

However, a big part of performance testing, and therefore reporting and analysis is understanding how your underlying technology is coping with the tests.

LoadRunner Cloud supports several monitors that allow you to gather information about your servers while executing tests. These include SiteScope, New Relic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Application Insights, Amazon CloudWatch monitors.

Now, you can also add Datadog monitors to your tests.

What Can Testers Learn From SpaceX?

As a test professional, I’ve seen countless projects where defects are treated as disasters rather than learning opportunities. But what if we flipped that mindset? What if software development projects embraced failure as SpaceX does—not as an end, but as the beginning of progress?
