Introducing ValueEdge Quality for Test Management

ValueEdge Quality

If you’re running Agile, DevOps, or implementing Value Stream Management, you need to look at ValueEdge Quality. It will save your team time, accelerate your projects, increase your software quality, and make your life easier. Plus, the time saved means that the tool should pay for itself in less than 1 year, delivering get ROI.

ValueEdge Quality is OpenText’s (formerly Micro Focus) new quality management solution based on ALM Octane and is a component of the larger ValueEdge product suite. ValueEdge itself is an all-encompassing value stream management (VSM) solution. We’ll not discuss ValueEdge or VSM in detail during this insight, but check out the linked insights for more information.

Instead, this insight will focus on ValueEdge Quality, its submodules, and what makes it a great test management tool for Agile, DevOps, Hybrid and VSM.

What is ValueEdge Quality?

As mentioned above, ValueEdge quality is OpenText’s latest test management tool. As such, it has an unrivalled pedigree, following on from such prodigious tools as TestDirector, Quality Center, and ALM Octane. It’s fair to say that it comes from great stock.

That said, ValueEdge quality is an evolution rather than a revolution, much like Quality Center was an evolution of TestDirector. However, this is no bad thing. Octane is a relatively fresh product with great maturity and wide adoption. It’s like a young adult, it’s got its life in order, but it’s still down with the kids and up on the latest trends.

The key difference is that ValueEdge Quality integrates into the wider ValueEdge suite. This makes it a great solution for Agile, DevOps, and Hybrid projects as well as companies implementing or looking at VSM.

Of course, you can use ValueEdge Quality if you’re not implementing VSM – it just means that if/when you do move to VSM, your test management tool will give you one less headache.

Also, If you’re running multiple project types (e.g. waterfall, hybrid, wagile), you might already have ALM or Quality Center. You can integrate ValueEdge Quality with these traditional test management tools to offer optimal lifecycle management for all your projects.

What are the ValueEdge Quality Submodules?

As you’d expect, ValueEdge Quality consists of a number of modules that let you manage the key Quality related activities for Agile and DevOps, Hybrid projects – creating tests and capturing results, logging and tracking bugs, creating reports, and CI server integration. Key modules include:

Quality Module

This is the main testing area where you can create and run tests. It allows you to analyse quality by business areas, locate pain points in your product, and concentrate your efforts in these areas.

Pipelines Module

This is the integration into your CI server (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, GoCD, etc.). This module collects data from your pipelines and provides graphical breakdowns and easy-to-read reports. This lets you easily analyse and inspect quality, progress, change impact, and code coverage.

Issues Module

This is the defects module. No real surprises, just best-in-class defect tracking and reporting. Anyone can enter a defect at any stage of the SDLC, these are easy to prioritise and allocate with sophisticated and fully customisable workflows to fit around your quality processes.

Additional Modules

The modules above are just a small subset of what is provided in ValueEdge Quality.

A wide range of additional modules makes Agile and DevOps test management easy. These include:

  • Requirements
  • Backlog
  • Team Backlog
  • Release Management
  • My Work
  • Dashboard
