Introducing ValueEdge Quality for Test Management

ValueEdge Quality

If you’re running Agile, DevOps, or implementing Value Stream Management, you need to look at ValueEdge Quality. It will save your team time, accelerate your projects, increase your software quality, and make your life easier. Plus, the time saved means that the tool should pay for itself in less than 1 year, delivering get ROI.

ValueEdge Quality is OpenText’s (formerly Micro Focus) new quality management solution based on ALM Octane and is a component of the larger ValueEdge product suite. ValueEdge itself is an all-encompassing value stream management (VSM) solution. We’ll not discuss ValueEdge or VSM in detail during this insight, but check out the linked insights for more information.

Instead, this insight will focus on ValueEdge Quality, its submodules, and what makes it a great test management tool for Agile, DevOps, Hybrid and VSM.

What is ValueEdge Quality?

As mentioned above, ValueEdge quality is OpenText’s latest test management tool. As such, it has an unrivalled pedigree, following on from such prodigious tools as TestDirector, Quality Center, and ALM Octane. It’s fair to say that it comes from great stock.

That said, ValueEdge quality is an evolution rather than a revolution, much like Quality Center was an evolution of TestDirector. However, this is no bad thing. Octane is a relatively fresh product with great maturity and wide adoption. It’s like a young adult, it’s got its life in order, but it’s still down with the kids and up on the latest trends.

The key difference is that ValueEdge Quality integrates into the wider ValueEdge suite. This makes it a great solution for Agile, DevOps, and Hybrid projects as well as companies implementing or looking at VSM.

Of course, you can use ValueEdge Quality if you’re not implementing VSM – it just means that if/when you do move to VSM, your test management tool will give you one less headache.

Also, If you’re running multiple project types (e.g. waterfall, hybrid, wagile), you might already have ALM or Quality Center. You can integrate ValueEdge Quality with these traditional test management tools to offer optimal lifecycle management for all your projects.

ValueEdge Wheel

What are the ValueEdge Quality Submodules?

As you’d expect, ValueEdge Quality consists of a number of modules that let you manage the key Quality related activities for Agile and DevOps, Hybrid projects – creating tests and capturing results, logging and tracking bugs, creating reports, and CI server integration. Key modules include:

Quality Module

This is the main testing area where you can create and run tests. It allows you to analyse quality by business areas, locate pain points in your product, and concentrate your efforts in these areas.

Pipelines Module

This is the integration into your CI server (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, GoCD, etc.). This module collects data from your pipelines and provides graphical breakdowns and easy-to-read reports. This lets you easily analyse and inspect quality, progress, change impact, and code coverage.

Issues Module

This is the defects module. No real surprises, just best-in-class defect tracking and reporting. Anyone can enter a defect at any stage of the SDLC, these are easy to prioritise and allocate with sophisticated and fully customisable workflows to fit around your quality processes.

Additional Modules

The modules above are just a small subset of what is provided in ValueEdge Quality.

A wide range of additional modules makes Agile and DevOps test management easy. These include:

  • Requirements
  • Backlog
  • Team Backlog
  • Release Management
  • My Work
  • Dashboard

Why ValueEdge Quality is The Test Management Tool for Agile, DevOps, Hybrid, and VSM

ValueEdge Quality is built for Agile and DevOps projects. It is also a ValueEdge module, so works perfectly within VSM frameworks.

No other Agile or DevOps test tool comes close to ValueEdge Quality’s technical capabilities – it includes integrated planning, continuous integration, test management, and release management.

The Dashboard is worthy of particular note as it will bring to life your projects and allow you to build custom views at a high level and drill down into the detail. No more clunky excel spreadsheets to show the status.

ValueEdge Quality is available in flexible, low-cost, SaaS licensing.

This makes it the ideal solution for all levels of modern software testing, from small teams to enterprise-level testing. It supports customised workspace configurations and provides corporate-level visibility.

If you’re running Agile, DevOps, or VSM, you need to look at ValueEdge Quality, so let us arrange a demo for you. It will make your life easier, your projects faster, and will increase your software quality.

Software QA Mythbusting: 5 Misunderstood Testing Concepts

We’ve all been there—sitting in a meeting, nodding along, confident that everyone shares the same understanding, only to discover later that our ideas were built on shaky ground, based on false assumptions and an incomplete grasp of a complex situation. In the world of software development, nowhere is this more common, or more consequential, than with software testing.

LoadRunner v JMeter

LoadRunner: Cheaper & Easier Than JMeter?

Four years ago, I wrote about how LoadRunner Cloud was debunking the myth that open-source is cheaper. At the time, LoadRunner Cloud’s pay-as-you-go pricing, bundled infrastructure, and rapid setup were already making it a compelling alternative to JMeter and similar tools.

How to Bridge the Gap Between Business and Testing

MBT can transform software QA processes through enhanced collaboration between testers and subject matter experts (SMEs). It offers enhanced capabilities for businesses seeking efficient, comprehensive testing solutions in an increasingly complex software landscape.

Time to Ditch Jira

Is it Time to Ditch Jira? (… For Test Management)

Are you sick of Jira test management solutions? You’re not alone. I speak to dozens of businesses monthly across all different sectors. Many have been forced to use Jira for test management. The more positive people I talk to say it is okay at best.

How to Succeed at Software Testing

6 Proven Principles For Software Testing Success

After decades in the software industry, I’ve witnessed firsthand how six fundamental principles consistently drive software testing success regardless of methodology or domain. Whether you work in functional or performance testing, follow Waterfall or Agile, or specialise in manual or automated testing, these guidelines form a checklist for consistent testing success.

Test Automation: Do Custom Frameworks Hide a Dirty Secret?

It’s 2025, yet many organisations still develop bespoke test automation harnesses and frameworks, stitching together a modular in-house automation solution.  This is due to various invalid assumptions and short-sighted commercial decisions.

Simple Test Automation: How to Slash Complexity & Maximise Coverage

Are you using multiple tools to test functionally across web, mobile, desktop, and enterprise applications? Then it’s time to consider a smarter, unified alternative. Relying on several test automation tools introduces various and significant challenges for organisations.

What can testers learn from SpaceX

What Can Testers Learn From SpaceX?

As a test professional, I’ve seen countless projects where defects are treated as disasters rather than learning opportunities. But what if we flipped that mindset? What if software development projects embraced failure as SpaceX does—not as an end, but as the beginning of progress?

video to defect

How to Generate Defect Reports from Videos!

Testers can now convert video recordings into detailed defect reports. This groundbreaking functionality accelerates project timelines with AI-powered speed and accuracy. Not only does this technology provide the holy trinity of speed, quality and cost savings, but it also solves a huge—often unspoken—issue on many projects: the breakdown of dev/test relations at the worst possible time.
