Performance Test Tool Selection – Success A Story

Choosing the right performance testing tool can be a challenging task for any organisation.

With so many options available in the market, it can be difficult to determine which tool will best meet the specific needs of your organisation and will grow with you over time.

As a leading provider of software testing tools, the Calleo team understand the challenges that organisations face when it comes to choosing the right performance testing tool.

In this article, we highlight a great case study that explains one company’s journey to selecting the right performance testing tool.

Introducing Win Technologies (aka Betway)

Win Technologies is a great example of how an organisation successfully selected the right performance test tool.

Win Technologies are the technology arm of Betway and a provider of integrated software solutions for the gaming industry. You may have seen them as sponsors of many sporting teams and activities. Including football, cricket, horse racing and others.

Why Win Needed a Performance Test Tool

As with so many companies, Win Technologies have the challenge of keeping up with the fast pace of development and user activity in the industry. This led to difficulty maintaining the high quality their customers had come to expect.

Win Technologies knew that to understand and pinpoint performance issues, they needed to run a thorough performance test across their Azure-based landscape.

However, they did not know which performance test tool to choose and wanted to assess their different options.

Win Evaluated Several Performance Test Tools

Win considered several performance testing tools available in the market, including NeoLoad and JMeter, and they turned to Calleo for our recommendation.

We worked closely with them to understand their people, their software landscape, and their business needs.

After a thorough evaluation process, at no cost to Win Technologies, it was clear that Win needed an enterprise test tool with detailed reporting and analysis capabilities that could fit easily into their DevOps pipeline.

Based on this information, we recommended that Micro Focus LoadRunner Cloud would be the best fit for Win Technologies’ specific needs.

Our recommendation was based on 20+ years of expertise in enterprise software development and our experience of helping several companies choose test tools.

Why Win Technologies Selected LoadRunner Cloud

Win then carried out a proof of concept and thoroughly evaluated NeoLoad, JMeter and LoadRunner Cloud.

LoadRunner Cloud’s value-for-money, cloud-based performance infrastructure, and ability to provide detailed analysis of system performance under load, made it a great choice.

There was a slight concern over LoadRunner’s Azure capabilities, but Calleo and Micro Focus quickly addressed this…

“Even though LoadRunner Cloud did not offer out-of-the-box integration with Azure Application Insights, it ticked all the other boxes for us, including full management of load generators with the flexibility of regional options, ideal for a global operator such as ourselves. After a conversation with Calleo we were introduced directly to Research and Development (R&D) at Micro Focus who assured us that the integration with Azure Application Insights could be delivered”, GREG ILETT Performance Test Manager Win Technologies.

Following this intervention, Win concluded that LoadRunner Cloud was the perfect option.

With our help, you can be confident that you’re making the right choice for your organisation.

Two Years Later and LoadRunner Cloud Has Proved Vital

As you can read in the Win Technologies Case Study, our recommendation was spot on, and LoadRunner Cloud has proven to be the perfect tool for Win and has been more cost-effective than open-source options.

It has now been two years since Win selected LoadRunner Cloud, and they have never looked back.

The Azure support was delivered as promised, LoadRunner Cloud is fully integrated into their CI/CD pipeline, and Win is seeing benefits throughout their SDLC.

The Calleo team are delighted that our insights played a key role in Win Technologies’ decision to evaluate and select LoadRunner Cloud.

With our help, you can be confident that you’re making the right choice for your organisation.

Test Automation Hype

Are Test Automation Claims Just Marketing Hype?

Read the marketing collateral from test automation vendors and you’ll encounter bold promises around costs, coverage, and defect reduction. However, for many who have been through multiple automation initiatives, the reality frequently fails to live up to the pitch.

Adding More Testers Makes Quality Worse

When Adding More Testers Makes Quality Worse!

You’re deep into a project, go-live is rapidly approaching, but there is a mountain of testing to get through. Then, a key stakeholder chimes in, “Let’s just pull more people into testing.” It sounds logical: bigger effort, higher quality. But doubling down on resources can easily lead to chaos, confusion, and worse software quality.

Is Open Source Trustworthy

Do You Trust Open-Source Tools for Enterprise Testing?

Open-source testing tools like JMeter and Selenium have obvious appeal—no licensing fees, endless customisation, and a community to lean on. But, if you’re using open-source for mission-critical testing, you need to ask—is it really worth the risk?

Should testers be allowed to block releases?

Should Testers Be Allowed to Block Releases?

Your testers find a critical bug the night before a major release. Should they have the power to stop the launch?

Testers provide essential insights into software quality and risk. Their analysis is critical for decision-makers, so would it make sense to give them the power to veto releases?

Bug seeding

Bebugging: Would You Plant Defects to Test Testers?

Would you intentionally plant defects to test your test team? Bebugging, as it’s known, is a technique where software flaws are purposely introduced to gauge testing effectiveness. Are there times and places where bebugging is a valid way to help improve processes, tighten up testing, or root out a potential weak link?

Unethical Test Tool Marketing

Exposed: Are You Being Conned By Test Tool Marketing?

We have all witnessed an alarming rise in deceptive marketing practices that undermine customer decision-making and market integrity, with tool vendors increasingly comparing their tools to industry leaders using deliberately misleading information.

Flaky Automated Tests

Are Flaky Automated Tests Better Than None at All?

Is flaky automation better than no automation at all? Does it help accelerate projects and reduce timelines, or does it end up causing more problems than it solves? And are the questions moot when, with modern AI-powered tools, there’s no excuse for flaky tests?

Software Testing Concepts

Software QA Mythbusting: 5 Misunderstood Testing Concepts

We’ve all been there—sitting in a meeting, nodding along, confident that everyone shares the same understanding, only to discover later that our ideas were built on shaky ground, based on false assumptions and an incomplete grasp of a complex situation. In the world of software development, nowhere is this more common, or more consequential, than with software testing.

LoadRunner v JMeter

LoadRunner: Cheaper & Easier Than JMeter?

Four years ago, I wrote about how LoadRunner Cloud was debunking the myth that open-source is cheaper. At the time, LoadRunner Cloud’s pay-as-you-go pricing, bundled infrastructure, and rapid setup were already making it a compelling alternative to JMeter and similar tools.
